Friday evening will be remembered as one of the most elegant events to ever take place in Quitman. Brother Ron and Marsha Stanley should be inducted into the Hall of fame for their efforts to support the funding of the Mary Carter Park. Dressed in a tuxedo, Ron masterfully served as the Maitre de and carefully orchestrated the flow of service for each course of the gourmet dinner. The servers were from allover Clarke County, and these volunteers, executed with professional precision. This service is what only the most exclusive restaurants dream of, and each table was a work of art with fine china, linen, and a beautiful flower vase.

The dinner began with Norwegian Salmon Tartare on Chive Potato Charlotte with Caper-Egg Pesto followed by a savory Slow Roasted Pork tenderloin served with Golden Morelle Cappuccino. We were enjoying the finest cuisine prepared by world renowned Executive Chef Mike Romhild. Chef Mike was given a standing ovation at the end of the dinner, and at his insistence all volunteers were also recognized with continued applause. Chef Mike's web site is www.chefmikeroemhild.com.

There was no doubt as to our Diva's identity. , Marsha Stanley proudly wore a shirt embroidered with the words "Heathers Mother" to both dinner and the concert. Heather is a world class Mezzo Soprano that has entertained audiences in over twenty-seven countries and on all seven seas. Her voice is pure and powerful, and she masterfully entertains the audience with a captivating style. Heather performed several George Gershwin works, and took us into Opera. She explained each of these skillfully, and her face radiated the passion of the music she sang. The highlight, at least for Harold Cockrell, was when Heather sat in his lap and sang to him. I thought Harold's wife "Leah" would collapse from laughing.

One other highlight, especially for me, was when Rose Longwitz, our own virtuoso pianist, played George Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue. My mother, who recently turned ninety~nine, played this for me when I was a young teenager. She is responsible for my love of classical music and having her here for the Dinner & a Diva with my two wonderful sisters made this event special. Rose's piano accompaniment of Heather was inspirational.

The fund raiser was very successful thanks to the efforts of the Quitman Auxiliary led by Sarah Wheat.

Dinner with the Diva - Something exciting will take place on April 30. Pastor Ron Stanley and Marcia Stanley have quickly become part of the community. Ron and Marcia are blessed with an exceptionally talented daughter. Heather showed remarkable vocal talent throughout her formative years. Her God given talent soon brought her the recognition reserved for international stars, and with her operatic voice has performed all over the world. Heather recently entertained at the Methodist Church to a packed Sanctuary.

The challenge of accompanying her on piano fell to Rose Longwitz, a well respected Choral Leader retired from the Quitman School District. Rose is now practicing to play for Heather on April 30. Imagine having to perfect some George Gershwin Broadway hits before the Dinner with the Diva performance.

Heather is the Diva, and the dinner will be prepared by her equally talented husband Mike Roemhild. Yes, Mike is a chef; but like Heather he is world renown and is the head chef for Regent Seven Seas Cruises. Mike is from Germany and many of us got to taste some of the food he prepared for the Wild Game Night at the Methodist Church. Check him out on his website - www.chefmikeroemhild.com

One hundred people will get to enjoy the finest of cuisine and hear the unbelievable voice of Heather Clancy Roemhild on April 30.

As with all things one end marks another beginning and so it is for Chef Mike Roemhild. After rising through the ranks to Executive Chef with Regent Seven Seas, Chef Mike is creating a new exciting life on land for himself and wife songstress Heather Clancy. In addition to contributing to the new section on "The Taste of Alaska" in my book, "Cruiser Friendly Onboard Guide to Alaska's Inside Passage", Mike has embarked on a fantastic new project that only he and Heather could offer. Dinner with The Diva combines an evening of fine dining with great entertainment provided by none other than Mike and Heather! Just imagine the chance to wow your country-club or next corporate event with a custom-made menu prepared by a chef who was the number one Executive Chef of a six-star cruise line and then, if that's not great enough, your evening's entertainment is the beautiful, funny and ever-talented Heather Clancy whose repertoire ranges from pop and standards to classic opera. This makes me so excited, I can imagine how much fun this would be for a wedding or any occasion where you want something extra-special and need to know it will be done right.

To learn more about Dinner with The Diva and what else is going on with Chef Mike, he has a new website where you will also find a few of his own recipes. To ensure that you get the results as Chef Mike, he is also launching a line of seasoning based on Old World ingredients.  If you enjoyed the meals that Chef Mike brought you over the years I hope you will take a look at www.chefmikeroemhild.com

I want to wish everyone on the Seven Seas Mariner a wonderful season in the Mediterranean and I look forward to seeing some of you here on the Navigator. Best wishes, smooth seas!
